Interim Protection Denied in Tandava Dispute, SC Said- You Cannot Hurt Anyone's Religious Sentiments

The Supreme Court refused to give interim protection to the director and other actors in the controversy over the 'Tandava' web series. The petitioners demanded protection from the court. The court said in its comment that the freedom of expression given in the constitution is not unlimited. The court also said that no religious sentiments can be hurt.

Let me tell you, the arrest of the petitioners on behalf of the filmmakers, along with the demand for protection, has been requested to dismiss the FIR and club all the cases in one place. The Supreme Court said that for this relief, move the High Court. At present, the police of 6 states have registered a case against the makers for hurting religious sentiments and using caste-related words in the series.

The court sought a response from the police of different states, a bench headed by Supreme Court Justice Ashok Bhushan heard three applications in the case on Wednesday. These petitions were filed by the film producer, director and writer, and an actor. During the hearing, the court has asked the UP, MP, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Delhi Police to file replies.

Tandava dispute

The court issued a notice to state governments. Not only this, the Supreme Court has issued a notice to the State Governments on the petition, which has filed an application on behalf of the producer, director, and writer of 'Tandava', seeking the action of criminal cases together. The court said that it would not use Section-482 of the CrPC and the petitioning petition in the court would not come in the way of the bail application filed by the petitioners i.e. the petitioners are free to file the bail application in the respective courts.

Arnab Goswami case mentioned during the hearing, senior advocate Fali S. on behalf of the petitioners. Nariman, Mukul Rohatgi, and Siddharth Luthra said that the relief given in the Arnab Goswami case should be given otherwise the bail application will have to be filed in different courts across the country. However, the court turned down the plea.
